Set in and around the 1942 home of Margaret Oates and Hugo Norton Dixon, The Dixon Gallery and Gardens showcase a stunning selection beautiful pieces, both of man-made art and naturally occurring plants. The heart of the art collection centers around Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art by French and American artists as well as British portraiture and landscapes from the 1700s and 1800s, though later additions to the museum holdings have expanded its base of pewter and porcelain decorative pieces. Surrounding the residence, acres of gardens have been created that both preserve the native beauty of Tennessee and highlight special floral collections and inserted sculptural pieces. The museum and gardens are located just south of the Memphis Botanic Garden complex, close to the University of Memphis in the southeastern reaches of the city.
